1989

A few weeks ago I digitized old camcorder footage from my early childhood. Combing through these precious memories, I'd also find transitory moments that would feel timeless, yet hopelessly anchored in a world long gone. Extracting some of these moments from the amber of time, I made 1989. Mostly based on original footage from that year, though some material might be as late as 1991.

As usual, the track is also available on Spotify and SoundCloud.

Enjoy.

Digital Paintings and Other Artwork

Time for my yearly batch of artwork :)

Charcoal III, Strange Figments II and as a new addition:
Digital Paintings.

At this point I'm on a concerning amount of platforms for you to mix and match, so I'm just going to dump the links here for you to follow and/or block:
Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Mastodon, Newgrounds, DeviantArt, YouTube, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, Pinterest, SoundCloud and Spotify.

You can also sign up for my newsletter, which goes out as often as I make these news posts, so maybe once or twice a year.

Charcoal II and Strange Figments

Criminally enough, I've been posting new artwork on social media but not on MINDistortion itself. So to set things right, I've added two new galleries for the artwork I've been posting over the last few months: Charcoal II and Strange Figments.

I will add future artwork in batches; meanwhile if you want to catch my drawings as I post them, you can follow @MINDistortionTV on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

(or on DeviantArt, Newgrounds and Mastodon)

Mammon's Wake

A short mood piece animation, made with charcoal, Flash and love:
Mammon's Wake – With greed as the captain, we find ourselves adrift at sea.

20 years of MINDistortion

Exactly two decades ago a little Flash website got uploaded to whatever free webspace was available at the time, showcasing whatever my angsty teen mind had come up with, created with what was then considered cutting edge technology.

Fast forward and Flash has come and gone but MINDistortion stuck around, so to celebrate its 20th birthday I've integrated the Ruffle Flash Player emulator. While it won't make my old games mobile friendly and support for some of my "newer" games is still pending, it does bring back such classics like MindScape, Bubbles 2, Zombie Squirrel Attack and Pocket Emo.

So close your flip phone, stop searching for that hot new WinAmp skin and kick back with some Flash Game nostalgia!

Firefly Nights

A new short film and with it a new song!

After dusk has set in, a lone firefly journeys out into the night – Firefly Nights

Higher Order

As I continue to work through the backlog of music I made in late 2020, here's another animated short:

A child, on the journey of its lifetime – Higher Order

(Music also on Spotify and SoundCloud)

Sines

A quick sinusoidal intermission of a tune: Sines

There's something else in the works as well, but it's going to take me a few more weeks to wrap up so stay tuned! :)

of the void

The last few months gave me the opportunity for introversion and trying my hand at making music. So here's my very first video featuring music of my own:

of the void – On the sweet nothing that is our home.

Don't worry, I'm not singing.

(music also available on Spotify and other platforms)

The Death of Flash

So this is it, by the end of this year the Flash plugin will officially have drawn its last breath.
The good news is though that I have finally taken it upon myself to convert all of my remaining old movies to mp4 and webm video. This means they are once again easily available and will remain so for the foreseeable future. All the good, bad and ugly of almost 20 years of animation. Well, 10 years, if you subtract my years of inactivity.
As far as the games are concerned... I'm not quite sure yet how to keep those accessible but I'll have a look at some of the few available options.
See you around!

8bit Love Story

It's a short movie! It's a game! It's both!
Finally.
8bit Love Story

Beware, I live

So this is it. I redesigned and rewrote MINDistortion from the ground up, dropped some of the older sections and moved away from ye good olde flash interface. I'm not gonna lie, I'll miss the old flash website a little bit, alas time moves on and so must we.
Does this mean I'll once again create new content on a regular basis?
Nah. Well, maybe. Depending on how you define "regular".
I've got a little something in the works that I've been working on and off for a ridiculously long time by now. Hopefully I can share it with you in a couple of weeks or months or decades. After that, who knows? The sky's the limit! That, and you know, stuff.
